Frank Musa, The Daily Vitamin, Blend Off, Blendoff, Blend offs, blend offs,Hey, my name is Frank Musa, I produced the Blend Offs. I’m writing this review based on the 4 best blender models from Blendtec, Vitamix, Nutribullet, and Ninja blenders. We tested making ice cream in each of these blenders and how they work and function and we are basing our review on the experiences from using the features of these blenders.

If you have any questions on Blendtec vs Vitamix or Ninja vs Nutribullet blender models please leave them at the bottom of the post in the comments and I’ll answer them.

Before you start, I just wanna say that Ice Cream Recipes are harder recipes to make in a blender because they are so packed with ice. You’ll need a blender with a more versatile speed range to give you the best optimal results. Slow speeds mixed with fast speeds and even having a nice pulse button or switch helps.

In my opinion, Vitamix and Blendtec companies are the best blenders for ice cream, they have a versatile speed range and variable controls which help control the blend more than a Ninja or Nutribullet. You can go to a local Costco and watch a Vitamix or Blendtec demonstration where they show you live and in person how to make ice cream.

Both Vitamix and Blendtec companies recommend for you to add your ingredients soft to hard for the best ice cream consistency.  If you add the ingredients in from soft to hard with the ice on top, you will get less air pockets. Enjoy this short review.

Example of how to add in your ingredients (SOFT to HARD)

  1. 1/2 Cup of Milk / Juice
  2. 1/2 Cup of powder (Superfood Protein)
  3. 2 Fruits
  4. 1 selected vegetable
  5. Sweetener: Honey – Dates – Stevia
  6. 4 Cups of Ice

WE HAVE A WINNER! The Best Blender for Ice Cream WINNER between the NutriBullet vs Ninja and Blendtec Vs Vitamix blender models is the Blendtec Blender. The Blendtec blender had the easiest time blending up the ingredients and had the best texture and best tasting ice cream.  The Blendtec Ice Cream was smooth, creamy, and rich, almost like Store bought Ice Cream.

The ice cream from the Blendtec was far more blended than all the other blender models, there we’re no chunks of vegetables or fruits or ice left behind, it all get mixed together perfectly, and it wasn’t crunchy like the Ninja blender. We used the Blendtec Wildside Jar for the test. The Wildside Jar is Blendtec’s newest and most powerful blending jar and has a bigger 4 inch blade and a wider base than it’s original standard jar.

The design of the Blendtec Blender is unique and seems to work well for ice cream recipes. It has 2 Dull Blades which pull down it’s ingredients into the blades, leaving no chunks behind, so you don’t need to do any work, as long as the ingredients don’t get stuck you will get a perfect consistency. The blades work well with the Blendtec automatic ice cream button feature because the Blendtec blender changes speeds on it’s own, and somewhat pulsates the blend into a nice creamy texture, and then stops when it’s done. The automatic ice cream button on the Blendtec blender is capable of making ice creams from start to finish without any help. It is a unique and creative feature which comes on most Blendtec blender models. Blendtec also has a digital timer which reads off how much time is left in the blend so you can see how long will it take to make your ice cream.

The next best blender for ice cream is the Vitamix blender. We love the strong stainless steel blade design on the Vitamix blender models, which are able to push it’s ingredients into the sides of the jar which forces them to fall back down onto the blades. This blade design allows for everything in the container to get thoroughly blended everytime. The ice cream setting on the Vitamix runs and stops on it’s own but it doesn’t change speeds as quickly as the Blendtec. The Blendtec jumps to speeds quick, the Vitamix goes slow.  The Vitamix seemed to just gradually increase it’s speed and slow down it’s speed, not quick at all; furthermore, we needed to use the tamper to finish the ice cream blend in the Vitamix where as in the Blendtec we didn’t need too. The Vitamix design, although different, works great and with a little help of the tamper you can get a perfectly blended ice cream with no chunks.

nutribullet juicing, controls and settings, bullet, bullet blender,Nutribullet

The Nutribullet had problems with it’s speed control, there are no options on the Nutribullet to slow down. There is only one speed option and it’s automatic, also, it’s weird adding in the ingredients because when you flip the container to set it on the base, it flips everything around, so you have to add in the ice first when making ice creams in the Nutribullet. The blades work exactly the same as the Vitamix where the ingredients get forced into the sides of the container where they fall back down onto the blades. The blade design is great but the speed control is not versatile enough for a good ice cream blender.

Ninja Blender

Ninja Mega Blender, Nutri Ninja, Blade, Blades, Ninja Blades, Nutri Ninja Blades, Ninja vs Ninja, Ninja Mega Blender vs Nutri-Ninja, blender, blenders, nutri, ninja, mega, nutri ninja, ninja mega,The Ninja Mega Blender has a poor blade design for ice cream, it just spins everything around and leaves a lot of fruit chunks behind. The taste that came from the Ninja Mega blender was also bland and icy, and overall, not a good choice for Ice Cream recipes. The design on the Ninja Mega Blender doesn’t push or pull the ingredients but rather just spins them around and bounces them up and down the container. The Ninja Mega Blender isn’t able to process the ingredients throughly like the other blenders do to it’s blade design. If you are going to go for a Ninja blender try the Nutri Ninja, it has a design which is more comparable to the Vitamix and Nutribullet.

Why Going Slow Speeds is Important

Because there is a large amount of ice, going slow speeds when first starting allows the ingredients to get down into the blades. Because there is so much ice in the blender jar or blender container, you have to go slow for about 15 seconds or so before you increase to a higher speed. A good ice cream blender goes slower speeds and has a versatile speed range. You don’t want to liquefy the ice cream by going to fast but rather blend and mix the ice into a thick creamy texture.

In Conclusion, what I like and don’t like

Design flaws

Like we mentioned above, ice cream recipes are thick and it is more difficult to blend an ice cream recipe into a thick creamy texture.

  • The Ninja Mega Blender has the poorest design to make ice cream, the blades don’t work the ingredients into the blades and the speed range is not slow enough for a good ice cream. There was a lot of fruit chunks left behind in the blend and the texture was very icy and bland.
  • The Nutribullet has the right blade design, but it does not have the speed range for a properly blended ice cream. Nutribullet Rx blenders only have 1 speed which is fast and it does not have the versatile options for speeds which are needed for ice cream.
  • Blendtec and Vitamix blender are your best choice. Both have the speeds, features, and blade design to make perfect ice cream recipes. They are your best blenders for ice cream.

Blendtec Blender Number 1 Choice

  • Blendtec blender models come with an automatic ice cream button which really makes it easy because it does all the work for you, you can push the button and walk away from the machine, the Blendtec blender speeds up on it’s own, changes speeds on it’s own, and stops when the blend is ready, which is exactly what it did in the video above which you saw and the ice cream it produced was incredible and we think it is the best blender for ice cream because of it’s easy to use design.
  • The Blade design on the Blendtec blender pulls ingredients down into the blades so you don’t need a tamper or stick; furthermore, makes it easier on the user.
  • The Blendtec Designer 725 ice cream button worked like magic, we sat there and watched the blender make the ice cream all by itself without any help.

Vitamix Blender Next Best

  • Newer Vitamix blender models feature an ice cream preset which is automatic but older Vitamix blenders don’t have automatic features. Vitamix blenders are known for their durable design and user control capabilities. The Tamper allows you to push ingredients into the blades as the blender is running which comes in handy for ice creams and other thicker recipes.
  • The Vitamix blender works to push it’s ingredients up the sides of the jar where they fall back down onto the blades, a great feature to most high power blenders is their blade designs. Regular blenders tend to just spin everything around and aren’t able to blend recipes as thoroughly .
  • The Low Profile Container did a great job in blending the ingredients into an ice cream, but we noticed that the texture produced by Blendtec was slightly smoother with less chunks of fruit and vegetables, maybe if we blended it a little longer we good of mixed the ice and fruits a little more.
  • The Low Profile Vitamix Container is much easier to tamper with than the standard containers and it is a great choice for ice cream recipes.

Note ‘We Noticed that The Blendtec blender automatic features are able to change speeds quicker and are more responsive than the Vitamix.

Ninja Blender is The Big Fail

  • The Ninja Mega Blender, though being very high powered, is still considered a mid tier blender, and doesn’t offer an ice cream button, so you will have to figure out manually how to make your ice cream, which can be difficult.
  • We noticed that the sharp 3 blades which come on the Ninja Mega Blender, don’t work to push or pull ingredients into a direction, they just spin everything around in hopes that the ingredients somehow all hit the blades. We find this design ineffective for producing a consistent smooth texture from it’s blends, and the Ninja Mega Blender, in fact, had a very poor performance in the Blend offs due to this blade design.
  • The Ninja Mega Blender produced pulpy and not throughly blended consistencies when compared to a Vitamix, Blendtec, or Nutribullet.
  • The texture produced by the Ninja Blender was icy and chunky, and was not easy to eat, and was sort of icy and chewy.

Nutribullet Blender The Big Fail

  • Unfortunately, the Nutribullet was NOT the best blender for ice cream. We gave Nutribullet last place because it didn’t produce an ice cream, it produced a – smoothie – instead.
  • We found it difficult to make ice cream in the Nutribullet because there are no speed options or controls on the Nutribullet blenders.
  • When you snap the pitcher onto the NutriBullet base, the blender starts an automatic cycle which runs for 62 seconds.
  • You can pull the pitcher off the NutriBullet blender anytime and the blender will stop running, but the main problem that we found is that the speed the blender runs is to fast and is not good for ice cream recipes.
  • It works great for smoothies, juices, and soups, but for ice cream recipes, you need to have more speeds.

Final Conclusion to the Ice Cream Blend Off

We recommend the Blendtec and Vitamix Blenders for Ice Cream Recipes, the Nutribullet and Ninja Blenders don’t have the capabilities and user friendly controls to produce a thoroughly blended and mixed ice cream.
