Blender review # 10 – making homemade ice cream

Healthy Ice Cream Recipes are becoming more and more popular with the health food craze and with all the raw vegan diet recipes out there, now you can make raw vegan homemade ice cream at home in your blender.

How to make ice cream

Making ice cream in your blender is easily made by adding a small amount of liquid with any combination of fruits/vegetables/nuts/seeds/leafy greens along with lots and lots of hard ice.

Close the lid and run the blender on a slow speed to start the blend and then crank it to a high speed to finish it. Might take a little effort but well worth it after you get that rich creamy texture.

Declaring a winner

After running tests between the Blendtec vs Vitamix and Nutribullet vs Ninja blender models, we uncovered that the winner for the best homemade ice cream was the Blendtec blender.

Here are 4 reasons why we liked the Blendtec blender..

  • The Blendtec has an automatic featured setting on its display for making homemade ice cream (ice cream button) which runs on its own and stops on its own. We didn’t have to do anything, the blender made the ice cream all by itself.
  • The ice cream had a nice creamy texture and was extremely well blended
  • The ice cream was easy to scoop out of the jar because there was only two blades at the bottom
  • The jar was easiest to clean because the blades are dull and the jar is big and wide and easy to reach inside.

We used the Blendtec 725 Designer blender with the big 90oz Wildside jar for the homemade ice cream test which is Blendtec’s larger blender jar coming with a wide base and a 4 inch blade. Blendtec’s standard jar has a 3 inch blade and a narrow base. The Wildside Jar is the way to go.

Blender review #9 – Juicing

Make healthy homemade juice recipes in your blender and keep all the fiber. Don’t throw away and waste all that valuable nutrient rich pulp like in the juicers. A strong blender can liquify all those big Whole Foods into a juice in seconds.

How to make homemade juice in your blender

Juicing in your blender is easy and healthier than store bought. Add some liquids like apple juice or water, then add vegetables and fruits, and anything else such as nuts, seeds, and leafy greens, and last add some ice to keep to juice from heating up. Run the blender on a high speed to liquify the ingredients throughly.

Declaring a winner

After testing the 4 blenders against one another for juicing we discovered that our favorite choice(s) and the winner(s) for the best blender for juicing was a tie between the Blendtec and Vitamix. Blendtec Designer 725 and Vitamix G 750 Series blender models we’re both equal in drinkable consistency and taste and we couldn’t decide on which one was better so we gave them a tie.

Runner Up was the NutriBullet Rx blender, a slightly thicker texture but the ingredients still got broken down throughly and you can drink the juice recipe with no chunks. The heavy load of ingredients in the Dr. Oz Green Juice recipe is tough for most blenders to handle, we filled the blender jars to the brim, take note that REGULAR BLENDERS CANNOT BLEND A DOCTOR OZ GREEN JUICE RECIPE WELL ENOUGH TO BE DRINKABLE.

Here are 4 reasons why we liked the Blendtec and Vitamix

  • Ingredients are easy to load into the blender jars because they are big and wide and you can fit a lot of ingredients into the jars.
  • Both Vitamix and Blendtec jars are able to liquify the ingredients quickly without any problem and they don’t leave any chunks behind like in regular blenders.
  • Both blender models have jars and containers which are wide at the base which makes them easy to clean.
  • Both Blendtec and Vitamix have an automatic featured setting for whole juice recipes which makes it easier to make because the blender runs and stops on its own when the juice recipe is done, so you are able to walk away from the blender and come back to it when the recipe is done.

The Blendtec Designer produced a great drinkable juice consistency with a delicious refreshing taste.

The Vitamix G Series had the same similar smooth consistency and taste as the Blendtec Designer, they we’re to close to call so we gave them a tie.

A very close runner up is the Nutribullet Rx 1700 watt blender, which also did a great job.

The Ninja Mega blender was not able to blend the juice into a smooth drinkable consistency and produced a much more chunky and gritty juice.

Blender review #8 – homemade soup

Homemade soup recipes may be just what you’re looking for. Blend up a Hot Soup in minutes with a Vitamix or Blendtec or Nutribullet blender, not so much the Ninja, results are below.

How to make hot homemade soup in your blender

It only takes 2 to 3 minutes to heat up and make soup in your blender. Lots of creamy soup recipe options to choose from which you can find online, when you buy the blender you’ll get a recipe book with lots of soup recipes. Homemade soups can vary depending on the type of soup you’re making but a common one you can make is 2 cups of water with some vegetables and a season of your choice. Once you’ve added everything into the jar, close the lid and run the blender on the highest speed for 3 minutes and the soup will get hot. If you keep running the Vitamix or Blendtec or Nutribullet blender on the highest speed setting the soup will heat up to over 165 degrees from the friction caused by the high speeds the blades travel. The friction from the blades heats up and cooks the soup.

The Ninja Mega Blender has a different blade design which was not able to heat up soup recipes.

Declaring a winner

It was a tough call between the Nutribullet and Blendtec and Vitamix blender models. Each one was able to blend up a hot soup recipe and reach a temperature of around 140 degrees in just a few minutes. We favored and gave the win for the best soup recipe to the Vitamix blender because it had the best tasting steaming hot homemade soup after just a few minutes of letting the blender run.

Runner up was the Blendtec Designer blender.

One big feature that Blendtec and Vitamix have over the Nutribullet is the pulse feature which allows you to make chunky soup recipes by pulsating ingredients such as chips, chicken, beans, corn, or bread into the soup to give it a chunky flavorful consistency with added nutrients. Nutribullet doesn’t have a feature for pulsating the blend for chunky soup recipes, but you are able to turn it on and off very quickly which works as a short burst, but is more difficult to do.

The Ninja Mega Blender failed in all categories, it wasn’t able to heat the soup.

Here are 4 Reasons we liked the Vitamix blender

  • Vitamix had the best soup consistency
  • The soup consistency which came out from the Vitamix tasted amazing
  • Vitamix has a way to easily pulsate ingredients into the soup to make it chunky with it’s pulse feature.
  • Vitamix allowed for the most control over the soup recipe with the use of the speed dial and also featured an automatic setting for soup recipes as an option.

The Vitamix and Nutribullet blenders we thought both had the best tasting soups, but Vitamix got the win because the soup had a nicer consistency and was easier to drink. We liked the controls on the Vitamix blender, we thought that it was very user friendly which helped for making the soup recipe.

The Blendtec blender got 2nd place to the Vitamix because it has an automatic soup button on its display which you can press which runs a 90 second timed cycle and stops; heating up the soup little by little. You have to push the button a few times to get it steaming hot. There are also vents on the lid, similar to the Vitamix, to let the steam out once the homemade soup recipe starts heating up, something that the Nutribullet doesn’t have, and the Blendtec Wildside Jar is also nice because you can load it up with ingredients, similar to the Vitamix Low Profile Container vs the Nutribullet Pitcher is more difficult to load and is not as user friendly.

Blender review #7 – Making flour from grain

Finding a good blender that can grind grains into flours can save you money cause you won’t need a grain mill appliance which you will probably never use and you can make fresh homemade flours at home for all your cookies with your blender instead.

How to make flour in your blender

To make flour you first must make sure your blender container or jar is completely dry,  it CAN NOT be damp or wet. Once that is figured out it’s easy, simply add in your grains such as spelt berries, wheat, or rice; don’t overfill the jar. Then close the lid and run the blender on it’s highest speed for around 1 minute and presto, you will have soft fluffy flour.

Declaring a winner

The Winner for the “How to make Flour” in your blender grain mill blend off goes to the Vitamix G Series 750 blender with the newer Vitamix Low Profile Container. The Flour consistency came out the fluffiest and finest from all the other blender jars and pitchers.

The next best flour consistency was from the Blendtec Designer 725 blender with the Wildside Jar, the homemade flour consistency was very close to the Vitamix but not as fluffy & light. The Vitamix homemade flour consistency was very soft and felt great in your hands, like soft powder, very light and fluffy.

Third place, but also very close in consistency to the Vitamix was the Nutribullet Rx. The Nutribullet RX blender has an impressive blade design which works similar as the Vitamix blender models and was able to produce flour from rice; moreover, did a great job grinding the rice into flour, and for the price of a Nutribullet you can’t beat what it can do.

The Ninja Mega blender did a poor job making the flour and did not produce a good consistency for using to bake your goods.

Here are 4 reasons we liked the Vitamix blender

  • The consistency of the flour was the best, very soft and fluffy
  • The large Low Profile container was easy to use and you can make a lot at once
  • You have easy control over the consistency of your flour with the Vitamix speed control dial.
  • Vitamix offers a special dry goods container for grinding grains so you don’t scratch up your wet container, but you are able to make the flour in their wet container.

Note ‘ If you are planning to do a lot of grinding in your Vitamix blender look into getting the Special Dry Goods Containerbecause your container will get scratched if you grind a lot of dry grains.

Blender review #6 – homemade milk alternatives

Homemade milk is healthier than store bought because there is no pasteurization, preservatives, or additives added to the milk. When you make your fresh homemade nut milks at home in your blender you can customize them to perfection adding in healthy sweeteners, and you know what’s going in there and into your body.

How to make homemade milk in your blender

To make a homemade nut milk in the blender simply add the nuts (almonds, cashews) with water and blend. The nuts will break down and give you nut milk; of coarse the big issue is can your blender handle breaking down the nuts to a nice drinkable consistency. Most regular blenders will leave chunks of nuts behind because they don’t have the proper blade design and blending power to blend the milk throughly, but with high performance blenders you can get a consistency which you can drink straight from the jar.

Declaring a winner

It was a tough decision between the Blendtec and Vitamix Blenders for the best milk substitute. We added 1 cup of almonds with 1 cup of water to each blender and let the blenders run for around 1 minute. The milk produced from the Vitamix and Blendtec blenders was extremely well blended, no chunks got left behind, and you could drink the nut milk straight from the blender jar easily without having to put it through a cloth strainer.

Here are 3 reasons we liked the Blendtec and Vitamix blenders

  • Nuts got blended well enough where you can drink the nut milk without having to strain it in a nut milk bag.
  • Easy to use jars, nothing comes apart, you can just rinse them out and store them
  • Fun digital technology and user friendly controls are easy to use

Runner up was the Nutribullet Rx blender. The NutriBullet Rx had a great taste but a slightly thicker consistency than the Blendtec and Vitamix blender models

The Ninja Mega blender wasn’t able to blend up the nut milk to a smooth consistency, it was more gritty with chunks of nuts left behind, more like a regular blender.

Blender review #5: Best blender for smoothies

Smoothies are a simple way to get nutrients quickly into your system containing many health benefits from the raw fruits and vegetables. One big plus of drinking smoothies is that your body is able to absorb the nutrients very quickly because the ingredients are already broken down so your system doesn’t have to work hard to digest the nutrient rich foods.

How to make the perfect smoothie

A simple smoothie has 1/2 cup of water with 2 types of fruits and your choice of sweetener such as dates and around 1 cup of hard ice. You can add in green leafy vegetables, nuts, and seeds, along with powders to enhance the nutrient content to your smoothie.

How to make the perfect green smoothie

Perfect green smoothie recipes consist of 60 percent fruits and 40 percent vegetables. Popular smoothie recipes use leafy greens such as spinach or kale and if your blender is powerful enough you can add in nuts and seeds into a nice smoothie blend.

Declaring a winner

Unbelievable, the winner for the best blender for smoothies blend off is the NutriBullet Rx 1700 Watt Blender. The Nutribullet high power Rx blender is twice as powerful as the smaller Nutribullet 600 watt & 900 watt (magic bullet ) blenders. The 2 peak hp power 1700 watt motor in the Rx easily blended and liquified the nuts, seeds, tough vegetables and fruits into a smoothie very quickly and had a great taste and consistency and has a price point of around $150 which is much more affordable than a Vitamix or Blendtec.

Turns out the Nutribullet Rx smoothie blender design is very easy to use, you simply add your ingredients into the Nutribullet pitcher and place it on the Nutribullet base, it runs an automatic blender cycle so you are able to walk away from the machine as it stops on it’s own. It has an automatic timed cycle of 62 seconds. Turns out the Nutribullet Rx is great for making smoothies.

Here are 4 reasons we liked the Nutribullet Rx

  • Has an automatic timed cycle which runs for 62 seconds
  • Easy to clean the pitcher by unscrewing the blades from the pitcher
  • Blades are designed liquify and create great tasting smoothies
  • Has a simple to use design which is user friendly

The smoothie consistency and taste is amazing.  Enough so to compare to or even, in this case, beat the Blendtec and Vitamix blender models which cost twice to three times as much. The nutribullet smoothie was much better in consistency and taste than the Ninja Mega blender.

Blender review #4: Cleaning test

Cleaning your blender is always a pain, but some blenders are easier to clean than others. Check out this short blender review on cleaning these blenders and what we think about it.

How to clean your blender jars, pitchers, and containers

Best thing to do is clean your blender immediately after you use it so the gunk doesn’t get stuck to the sides of the jar or under the blades. To loosen up the gunk you can add water and dish soap to the blender jar, pitcher, or container and run it on a high speed for 30 seconds. This helps loosen the gunk and most of the time you can simply rinse it out after and it’ll be clean.

Blade designs can be dangerous, lots of blenders on the market have dangerously sharp blades where you end up cutting your fingers when cleaning the blender. This can be an issue and something you should consider when purchasing a blender.

Declaring a winner

We gave the win for the easiest blender to clean to the Blendtec blender. Blendtec has a light weight jar which weights only 1.5 pounds and is very easy to handle, the material is made from is Eastman Tritan Co Polyester BPA FREE material, which has passed all safety inspections. The Dull Blades on the Blendtec blender jars are extremely easy to reach under and around, there is no fear of cutting your fingers when cleaning a Blendtec blender.

Here are 4 reasons why we liked the Blendtec

  • Blendtec blender jars have dull blades which are easier to clean
  • No pieces come apart, blade and jar are welded together
  • Big wide base is easy to reach into with your hand
  • BPA Free material is safe

Blendtec designed their jars to have dull blades which we found easiest to clean under and under, their Wildside Jar is wide at the base so you can easily reach your whole hand into the jar without fear of cutting your fingers.

Vitamix designed their containers with sharp pointy blades which are a little more dangerous to touch, you have to be a bit more careful when reaching around and under the blades, although the Low Profile jar is much easier to reach into and clean than the tall standard Vitamix container.

Nutribullet pitchers come apart which makes it very simple and easy to clean. The pitchers vary in size depending on the Nutribullet model you purchase but the Rx Nutribullet pitcher is big and you can reach you whole hand into the pitcher and clean the bottom easily. The blade is sharp and pointy like the Vitamix blade so you have to be a little careful when cleaning around it. The rubber seal sometimes come off on the Nutribullet blade after a lot of use which is annoying.

Then Ninja Mega blender has a unique and dangerously sharp blade design which you can cut yourself on easily, be careful cleaning around the blades. You are able to pull out and separate the blades from the container on the Ninja Mega blender design which makes it easy to clean the container.

Blender review #3: Carrot juice

Juicing Carrots for many people is a test of a good blender. You’ll be surprised when you buy a blender and put some carrots in it and it breaks or the blades are not able to move. Carrots are tough to blend for regular blenders, you’ll notice that you’ll need a high power blender to get good results when blending carrots.

How to make carrot juice in a blender

Lots of people think of a juicer when making carrot juice, but a good blender can produce great results and you’ll get more fiber. To make carrot juice in a blender you’ll just need to add water and carrots and blend.

Declaring a winner

We gave the win for best carrot juice to the Blendtec Designer blender with the 90oz Wildside Jar. The blendtec blender produced an extremely smooth, very easy to drink, carrot juice that had a slightly sweet taste and almost no pulp. You don’t need to strain it through a strainer, it’s ready to drink after 30 seconds of blending on a high speed.

The next runner up was the Nutribullet Rx blender. The Nutribullet had a very nice sweet taste but was a little more pulpy and not as throughly blended as the Blendtec Designer.

We gave Vitamix 3rd place for this Blend Off because the taste produced from the Vitamix G Series 750 blender using the Low Pro Container, was slightly bland and not as sweet as the Blendtec and Nutribullet, although it did have a better consistency and was easier to drink than the Nutribullet Rx Blender, the taste was not as good, not sure if it was because of some bad tasting carrots or what but the consistency was great, almost no pulp.

Here are 3 reasons why we liked the Blendtec

  • Carrot juice was easy to drink straight from the jar
  • We can push a button on the Blendtec blender which runs an automatic cycle for juicing which stops on it’s own
  • We we’re able to add big whole carrots into the blender

We found that the Vitamix Standard 64oz tall container produces a slightly different and many times better taste than the Low Pro Vitamix Container, the blades on the Vitamix standard container are sharper and are 3 inches where the Low Profile Vitamix container has a thicker 4 inch blade.

The Ninja Mega blender was to pulpy and not blended well enough.

Blender review #2: Blending tough ingredients

You don’t want to purchase a blender that breaks when you put a tough vegetable in the jar. A strong blade design and motor is important so we decided test these blender models with some really really tough ingredients.

Blender review on tough ingredients

A regular blender would not be able to do this, these blenders have 1500 watts or more and are strongly built to handle tough ingredients. We put an avocado pit and a beet into the blenders with some water and turned them on and here’s what we found out.

Total Success

All the blenders we’re able to do it! This proves that the powerful designs of the BlendtecVitamix Nutribullet – and – Ninja blender models are all powerful enough to blend any ingredient you put inside them.

In conclusion,

To say the least we have to give respect to all the blenders we tested and thank the companies for designing them and improving on their designs overtime which benefits us, the consumers.

I would say that the overall best deal is the Nutribullet Rx, it is a very capable blender and at it’s price point you really can’t beat the deal for what it does.

I would also say that for $100 or maybe $150 more you can buy a refurbished Vitamix or Refurbished Blendtec and get that extra power and blending capability and purchase a blender that might last a big longer and offer more versatility.

Those are my thoughts, I hope you enjoyed learning about these blenders. Leave any comments you have below. Thanks.
