This review covers everything, so try to read the whole thing.

So which blender should you go with? Vitamix or a Blendtec?

Unfortunately, the main disadvantage is that these advanced kitchen appliances come at a higher cost. And when you’re making as large a purchase such as a Blendtec or Vitamix blender, it’s important that you know the facts.

Blendtec vs Vitamix Blender

Costs & Deals

The high cost between Blendtec vs Vitamix top blenders can deter most people from wanting to purchase one. Most Blendtec and Vitamix blender models cost from $400 to $700 when brand new. Thankfully, there are always ways to reduce the cost, such as purchasing a refurbished blender, Both companies also offer long extended warranties to protect the purchase.

Brand new Blendtec blenders start at $399 for their cheapest Classic 575 model, but can cost up to $1100, as their Stealth commercial model does, which is designed for juice shops.

Blendtec refurbished blenders can be found as low as $279 such as the Blendtec Total Blender and slowly go up in price as you get newer refurbished models. The Blendtec 575 refurbished is $319, the Blendtec Designer 625 refurbished is $399, and the Blendtec Designer 725 refurbished is $539.

You can find an older Vitamix blender models refurbished as well. Search Amazon for the Best Vitamix Reconditioned Blender Deals. The Vitamix 5200 for $329 or a newer Vitamix 5300 for $359, both are two great refurbished deals.

Blendtec vs Vitamix Blender

$200 – $300

Blendtec vs Vitamix blender models available under $300 are either refurbished or reconditioned or a really old model, newer Blendtec vs Vitamix blender models cost between $400 and $700, but buying a refurbished or reconditioned Blendtec or Vitamix isn’t a bad way to go, you still get a warranty, the same payment plan, and the blender is able to make the same great blends and consistencies as the newer versions, depending on the blending jar or container you go with.

Although comparable, these two blenders are completely different. The Blendtec Total Blender is all digital push button controls where the Vitamix 5300 is only manual controls with no automatic features. The Blendtec Total Blender has 6 automatic push button features which are designed to make the blends all by themselves without any help, you can push the blender button and walk away, just like on the newer Blendtec models.

The Vitamix 5300 is an upgrade design of the old Vitamix 5200 blender, just with a quieter upgraded 2.2hp motor. The 5300 Vitamix speed dial offers 10 blending speeds and comes with a pulse switch capable of chopping and an on/off switch.

The Blendtec Total Blender offers more automatic features than some of the newer Blendtec Designer and Classic models giving you the same versatility and convenience. Six automatic settings for smoothies, whole juice, soups, Mixing, Ice Cream, and Ice Crushing makes blending easy because you can push a button a walk away. There is a pulse button on the right of the digital display for more control and chopping and is good for finishing off a blend. The manual speeds don’t give you as much control as the newer versions but they work great, you push the UP or DOWN button to go up 1 speed or down 1 speed, but you can’t jump speeds like on the newer models.

A Big feature we like about the Blendtec Total Blender vs the Vitamix 5300 blender is the digital timer that reads off the time left in the blend. When you push the button a timer pops up which reads off the setting you pushed and how much time the blender will run for, this is awesome and is a huge perk to the Blendtec Total Blender.

NOW aside from the controls and motor, the main thing that will determine the consistency of your blends are the blending jars and containers. There a few options each company offers which we would recommend over others. For one, the newer Vitamix Low Profile Container and Blendtec Wildside Jar are both very similar and will produce the same similar consistencies and textures for your blends. The jars are both short and have a wide base with a big 4 inch blade. Both jars work great for Hot Dry Wet and Cold blends and are the easiest to clean from the rest of the jars and container Blendtec and Vitamix offer.

The two other good ones to have are the Vitamix 640z tall container and the Blendtec 64oz Standard Jar. Both of these work great for ice creams and grind grains well and produce slightly less air bubbles for your smoothies and juices than the bigger jars and containers. Not a bad choice.

One thing about the Vitamix containers are they come with a blending tamper which allows you to push ingredients down into the blades as the blender is running where the Blendtec jars don’t have this option. What does this mean?  Well this means if something gets stuck in the Blendtec you need to stop the blender and shake the jar so the ingredients drop back down onto the blades where the Vitamix you can just let it run and push the ingredients down. Really not to big of a deal and the Blendtec usually works to get the ingredients without any help.

Blendtec vs Vitamix Blender

$300 – $400

Priced a little higher in the $300 to $400 range you get a few more options, though these are still not the newer elite models Blendtec and Vitamix offer and a couple of these are refurbished and reconditioned. A Big difference between a NEW Blender and a REFURBISHED blender is the warranty on a refurbished or reconditioned blenders is much less, usually around 3 to 5 years vs a 8 to 10 year warranty for a NEW blender.

Remember that you are able to purchase any Vitamix Container for any of these Vitamix models, so for example the Vitamix E310 comes standard with the 48 ounce container but you can upgrade your purchase and ask them for a Vitamix Standard Tall 64oz Container or the Vitamix Low Profile Container instead, or just buy it separate.

If you like automatic settings on your Vitamix then you can get them in this price range, the Vitamix Standard Series with programs has 3 automatic settings which include smoothies, soups, and ice creams, the main 3 basic features. Most older Vitamix blender models don’t come with automatic features and you’d have to jump up to the next price range to get them.

The Blendtec Classic 575 is usually over $400 but this one is refurbished so the price has been reduced. The 575 has some very nice features, it has 5 basic speeds with work great because you can jump back and forth from low to high quickly and the manual push button speeds are very responsive. The 575 Blendtec also comes with 4 automatic settings for cleaning and the basic smoothie, and also offers a 60 second and 90 second run time button for soups and pureeing.

The Vitamix E310 and Vitamix 7500 both have a similar design but motor is different, the E310 has the older and louder 2hp Vitamix motor where the Vitamix 7500 is considered the quietest Vitamix blender of all time with the newer upgraded 2.2hp motor. The display controls are the same featuring 10 controlled manual blending speeds with no automatic features on the speed dial.

Vitamix A2300 vs A2500

The ascent Vitamix A2300 and A2500 use the old style Vitamix speed dial control system with a pulse switch and on/off switch but the new digital timer reads off the time the blender is running, which is a new feature. The 2.2hp 12 amp motor is the same as the Legacy Series, and just like the legacy series, is powerful and very quiet.  The A2300 has 10 speeds on it’s speed dial where the A2500 has 10 speeds plus 3 automatic preset features you can choose from. Both the Vitamix 2300 and Vitamix 2500 are equal in every way besides the 3 automatic features. Vitamix A3300 vs A3500

The A3300 and A3500 are focused on their digital features but still come with a speed dial which you can work to control your blends. The speed dial has 10 speeds and located to the left and right of the speed dial is the on/off switch and pulse switch which are replaced with digital push button technology instead of the switch. The Vita mix A3500 has 5 automatic presets above the speed dial which are in the form of digital buttons where the A3300 doesn’t have any automatic presets. Both blender models have a digital timer which reads off the time in the blend, and aside from the automatic features in the A3500, the A3500 also weighs 15 pounds compared to the A3300 which weight is 12 pounds.

Vitamix Ascent Costs and Deals – If you buy it NEW the Vitamix A2300 is $399 and the Vitamix 2500 is $449, but you can find them reconditioned and save some money. Blendtec Designer 625

The Blendtec Designer Series Blenders come with an 8 Year warranty NEW and a 3 year warranty refurbished and are the most advanced blenders that Blendtec has ever came out with. The Designer 625 is the most affordable of the Blendtec Designer blenders but still costs over $400 even as a refurbished blender. The sleek look and responsive slide touch digital controls are a big plus, and the 4 automatic features on the Designer 625 make blending recipes easy and quick, you can push a button and walk away from the machine. An elite choice for a high power blender.

Blendtec vs Vitamix blender

$500 – $600

Once you jump over the $500 mark the blenders start to get really advance and offer more features. Both Blendtec and Vitamix blenders offer their top blenders at this price range featuring the Vitamix Ascent 3500, the Vitamix 750, and the Blendtec Designer blenders.

A good thing about both blender companies is that you can pay the blenders off over time with their payment plan options. Spending a large amount of money at once for a blender is hard to do and most of us don’t have that kind of cash, but the payment plans make it affordable for anyone to be able to get one of these amazing machines.

The Vitamix 750 still has the old style Vitamix look and feel where the main focus is the speed dial and all the automatic features focus around the speed dial where the 3500 Vitamix Ascent Series has automatic features that are separate from the speed dial and stand alone.

Blendtec Designer 675 vs Blendtec Designer 725

These blenders are similar in their design and features but when you look closely the Designer 725 is much more advanced. Both have a slide touch slider for manual control but the Blendtec Designer 725 has 100 speeds where the Designer 675 has 8 speeds. These commercial blender models come at a much higher cost than home use blenders because they’re built to be used at restaurants, juice shops, and other commercial facilities where they will be used a lot more than a home blender. Both offer very advanced blender technology; the Blendtec 800 offers the Blend Wizard where you can choose from 42 different programs which are pre programmed for you, you can scroll to which ever setting you want for that button and set it. They’re 6 programmable buttons you can set. The Vitamix Quiet One also offers 34 settings you can choose from with 6 buttons you can set with your favorite programmable cycles.

Blendtec vs Vitamix

Between the models I really liked the quiet 2.2hp motor on the Vitamix Legacy and Vitamix Ascent blenders, it’s definitely more quiet then the Blendtec blenders, but one thing I like about the Blendtec blenders is their automatic features are more responsive. It’s a hard decision between the two blender companies. They each are trying to out due each other from refurbished models to high end commercial models. They are perfectly matched from their containers and jars to their commercial blenders to their new sleek home blenders.

Any of these Blendtec or Vitamix blender models will get the job done for you, the bigger decision you’ll have to decide on is which features do you prefer? which jars and containers do you like blending with? Each company offers a Payment Plan option so you don’t have to bare the burden of paying it all at once. Now pick out which kid you want to be friends with and go play.

Hello and thanks for all this valuable information! I have a Vitamix (about 16 years). I make a lot of nut cheeses and hate cleaning the blades. It sounds like the Vitamix might be a bit better for smoother, less grainy nut blends but I’m wondering how much a difference there is (I really like the simpler, more open design of the blendtec). Would love to know your thoughts. Thanks, Lauren

    • Frank Musa says:

You know, it really is a hard decision between the two. The Blendtec does have a big advantage with the simplified two blade design, which makes for easier cleaning and also makes it easy to get thicker blends out from the bottom of the jar, like Nut Butter, which is much tougher to do with the Vitamix because the blades get in your way. The newer Vitamix containers are much better for cleaning and leave you more room at the bottom to reach in and around, but yeah, the Blendtec blade design is awesome. The Blendtec Twister Jar is the best for Nut Butters, the twister jar can make Nut Butter creamier and smoother and faster than all the other Vitamix Containers and Blendtec Jars available. Hope that helps.
